Be A Victor, Not a Victim: 4 Rules for Women’s Self Defense

Despite popular opinion, eye gouges and groin strikes are not go-to techniques for women’s self-defense. While physically defending yourself is a must, engaging in a physical altercation should be a last resort. There are measures you can take so that someone with harmful intentions won’t even target you. With verbal, mental, and situational awareness skills, you can minimize the chances of a physical altercation and will empower you in the event of an altercation. At SBG, we call that The Warrior Woman Mindset.

A Warrior Woman is aware of her environment. If you’re looking at your phone or busy loading bags into your car, predators will take advantage of those distractions. Stay focused in the present moment. Be aware of your surroundings and engaged with your environment so that you are prepared to respond to any threat.

A Warrior Woman trusts her instincts. Have you ever met someone who gave you the creeps, made your skin crawl, and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Those are your instincts warning you that you may be in danger. Even though you can’t rationalize the feeling, but you should listen to it.

A Warrior Woman is engaged. Most perpetrators target women that they can easily control and dominate. If you slouch or are distracted by her phone, an attacker can catch you off guard and easily control you. However, if you walk with good posture, then you’re warning potential attackers that you will put up a fight.

A Warrior Woman is ready to act. You can do everything right and make the best choices, but sometimes you can’t avoid an encounter with a dangerous attacker. Train yourself to have the physical and mental ability to fight for your life.

If you don’t train it, you don’t own it. At SBG, we host free women’s self-defense seminars once a year for women of all ages, but this is only the first step in training in the Warrior Woman mindset. Staying in shape, maintaining a healthy diet, getting plenty of sleep, and surrounding yourself with people who bring out the best in you is your best line of defense.
